D-backs bullpen falters again as they lose to the Pirates, 5-4

Ian Kennedy hit the mound today in Chase Field to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team that he's had great success against. Too bad it's a new season. Pittsburgh roughed him up early as he let up 4 runs in 6.0 IP. However, the D-backs showed off their tough and resilient snake skin nature as the struck back to tie the game off a rare Johnny Mac homer in the 8th inning. However, the D-backs Bullpen once again blew an opportunity as Andrew McCutchen singled in a run against Bryan Shaw at the top of the 9th inning. Juan Cruz, a former Diamondback, got the save for the Pirates.

Arizona Diamondbacks open the 2012 season with a win over the Giants

The Diamondback notched a win on Opening Day 2012 as Ian Kennedy out-dueled  Tim Lincecum to lead the D-backs to a 5-4 win. The day opened with the Giants threatening to score, but they did not. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Willie Bloomquist led off the game with a hit, then Chris Young stepped into the batters box. The top-hitting snake during spring training picked up where he left off, by hammering a Lincecum fastball into the outfield bleachers at Chase Field. Paul Goldschmidt later homered that inning, but the Giants would tie things up in the top of the 6th inning. However, in the bottom of the 6th, Tatman, Ryan Roberts, would tattoo a double to score two runs and put up the D-backs up for good as JJ Putz would seal the opening day victory.

Diamondbacks offense leads them to game 5 in Milwaukee

The Diamondbacks forced a game 5 against the Brewers for Friday after they beat them 10-6 at Chase Field on Wednesday night. After getting a commanding lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a Ryan Robert's Grand Slam and a Chris Young solo homer, the Diamondbacks held a lead they would not relinquish. The Brewers actually came within inches from tieing the game when Cory Hart launched a ball to the fence with bases loaded, but Gerarrdo Parra caught the ball at the warning track to save a 4-run lead. Micah Owings earned the win and Randy Wolf had the loss as Milwaukee let up 4 home runs. This NLDS series will head back to Milwaukee as Ian Kennedy will look for revenge against Yovani Gallardo and the Brew Crew. If the snakes can win on Friday, they will become the first team in NLDS history to come back from a 2-0 series deficit and advance to the NLCS. It will be interesting to see if the D-backs can come back one more time against the Brewers. Anybody, Anytime

Kennedy shuts down Pirates, earns 20th win

Ian Kennedy allowed one hit against the Pittsburgh Pirates over 8 innings as Arizona beat the Bucs, 1-0. The three most valuable players for the Diamondbacks played well tonight: Kennedy got win #20, Upton hit his 31st homer of the year (the only run of the game), and closer JJ Putz notched his 42nd save of the season. The magic number is now at 4 with 8 games remaining.

Kennedy wins 19th, Diamondbacks beat Padres 4-1.

Right-hander Ian Kennedy notched his 19th win of the season as he struck out 11 in 7 innings of one run ball as the Diamondbacks took the first out of a four-game homestand against San Diego. Both Goldschimdt and Upton homered in Kennedy's 19th win, the most in the National League. Arizona gained a 7 1/2 game lead over the idle San Francisco Giants.

Kennedy picks up NL leading 17th win as Diamondbacks sweep the Padres

The Arizona Diamondbacks ran their winning streak to 6 after they swept the San Diego Padres. Ian Kennedy pitched 7 innings of one run baseball while striking out 7. The Arizona ace now has an NL best 17 wins. Aaron Hill hit 3-5 with 3 RBIs and his first home run as a Diamondback. Collin Cowgill also had a homer. Orlando Hudson hit a home run against Kennedy in his return to Chase Field as a Padre. San Francisco lost to Houston in extra innings, so the D-backs now hold a 4-game lead in the NL West. Arizona will host Colorado and then travel to San Francisco on Labour Day Weekend.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Washington Nationals 2-0 for their first win since their impressive 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies last Tuesday. This is the clubs 70th win this season which is a remarkable turnaround given last years 65-97 record. Sean Burroughs scored the games only runs as he homered in the top of the 7th inning. Ian Kennedy pitched seven scoreless innings, earning him his 16th win of the season. JJ Putz earned his 31st save of the season as the Diamondbacks shut out the Washington Nationals for a much needed win to gain a two game lead on the San Francisco Giants in the NL West division race. The reigning World Series champions lost to the San Diego Padres 7-5 Tuesday night.
